eBay APIs & Sold Comps Access

eBay has retired, restricted and renamed its sold-data endpoints several times. These guides track what each official API returns today, who can get access, and what to use instead when you can't.

Start here (7 guides)

  1. Does eBay Have an API for Sold Listings? (The 2026 Answer) — Not one that's open to new developers. eBay's only sold-data API, Marketplace Insights, is a Limited Release API that requires business approval. The Finding API's findCompletedItems was shut down on February 5, 2025, and the Browse API only returns active listings. To get sold prices in code today, you need an approved partner account, a scraper, or a hosted sold-listings API.
  2. eBay Marketplace Insights API: What It Returns and Why You Probably Can't Get Access — Marketplace Insights is eBay's only official API for sold items. Its single endpoint, item_sales/search, returns sales from the last 90 days, up to 200 results per page and 10,000 per search, with the last sold price and date per listing. It is a Limited Release API: you need the buy.marketplace.insights OAuth scope, which requires an Application Growth Check and business approval, and many small developers report being denied.
  3. eBay Now Makes You Sign In to See Sold Listings: What Changed and How to Get Sold Comps Anyway — Yes. Since mid-2026, eBay sends anyone who isn't signed in to an eBay account to a sign-in page when they filter search results by Sold or Completed items. Active listings still work signed out. Users reported tests starting in May 2026 and a broad rollout across eBay's major sites in late July 2026. You don't need Gmail specifically; any eBay account works. For apps and scripts, this broke anonymous scraping, so most now use a hosted sold-listings API.
  4. findCompletedItems Replacement: Migrating Off eBay's Finding API (With Field Mapping) — There is no open, official replacement. eBay decommissioned the Finding API, including findCompletedItems, on February 5, 2025. Its official sold-data successor, the Marketplace Insights API, is Limited Release and closed to most new developers, and the Browse API has no sold items. Most teams now swap findCompletedItems for a hosted sold-listings API that takes a keyword and returns completed sales as JSON.
  5. Is There a Terapeak API? What eBay Product Research Can and Can't Do for Developers — No. Terapeak, now called Product Research inside eBay Seller Hub, has no public API. It is a free dashboard for signed-in eBay sellers that shows about three years of aggregated sold data such as average sold price, price range and sell-through rate. It's great for manual research, but to get sold prices into code you need Marketplace Insights (if approved) or a hosted sold-listings API.
  6. The eBay API in 2026: Developer Account, Keys, and Which API Returns What — The eBay API is a set of separate APIs. After joining the free eBay Developers Program and creating a keyset, you can use the Browse API for active listings, the Sell APIs for your own listings and orders, and the Taxonomy API for category IDs. Sold prices for other sellers' items are only in the Marketplace Insights API, which is Limited Release and closed to most new apps. The old Finding and Shopping APIs were shut down in February 2025.
  7. The State of eBay Sold Data in 2026: A Dated Timeline — Between 2020 and 2026 eBay closed every open route to sold-price data. findCompletedItems was restricted in October 2020, the Finding API was decommissioned on February 5, 2025, the February 2026 User Agreement banned LLM-driven bots, and from mid-2026 sold search results require signing in to an eBay account. The only official sold-data API, Marketplace Insights, remains Limited Release.
