Is There a Terapeak API? What eBay Product Research Can and Can't Do for Developers

Terapeak used to be an independent research company, with its own (long-retired) developer program. eBay bought it, folded it into Seller Hub, and renamed it Product Research. As one reseller put it: "eBay bought Terapeak then integrated it into Seller Hub. It's free to all sellers."
Free and deep, yes. Programmable, no.
What Terapeak shows
- About three years of sales history, far deeper than eBay's normal 90-day sold search
- Average sold price and price range
- Sell-through rate and number of sellers
- Filters for keyword, category, condition and format
- A per-listing table with average price and units sold
It runs inside a signed-in seller account. Visit ebay.com/sh/research signed out and you're sent to sign-in.
Why developers can't use it
When a developer asked on eBay's forums how to research sold products through an API, eBay staff pointed them to Terapeak. The developer's reply: "Clicking through the Terapeak application… is useless because of how much time it takes." Another thread asked, "is there a way to access the data from the seller hub research with api?" The answer: there used to be an Insights API, but it's "not available to general public anymore."
The specific problems:
- No API. Nothing returns Product Research data as JSON.
- Aggregates, not sales. You see averages, not each sold item's price, date and condition, which is what you need to apply your own filters.
- Signed-in only. Automating a signed-in seller session is against eBay's terms and puts your seller account at risk.

When to use which
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Research a niche by hand before sourcing | Terapeak. It's free and has three years of history |
| See a seasonal trend over two years | Terapeak |
| Show "what this sold for" inside your app | A sold-listings API |
| Price 500 items from a spreadsheet | A sold-listings API (Sheets guide) |
| Get eBay's official data in code | Marketplace Insights, if you can get approved |
The code version
The closest thing to "Terapeak, but an API" for the last 90 days is one request:
curl "https://api.soldcomps.io/v1/sold?q=pyrex+butterprint+bowl" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SALEHISTORY_KEY"
You get the individual sales plus a median, with no eBay account involved. If you need years of history for a trend chart, keep Terapeak open in another tab. We'd rather tell you that than pretend 90 days is three years.
Need history beyond 90 days in a form you can keep? See how to start your own eBay price history.
Frequently asked questions
Is Terapeak free?
Yes. Product Research (formerly Terapeak) is free for eBay sellers inside Seller Hub and on the eBay mobile app.
How far back does Terapeak go?
About three years of sales history, according to eBay's Seller Centre.
Can I export Terapeak data?
Product Research is a dashboard. There's no public API, and eBay's terms prohibit automated scraping of the site, so there's no supported way to pull its data into your own software.
