Does eBay Have an API for Sold Listings? (The 2026 Answer)

Not one that's open to new developers. eBay's only sold-data API, Marketplace Insights, is a Limited Release API that requires business approval. The Finding API's findCompletedItems was shut down on February 5, 2025, and the Browse API only returns active listings. To get sold prices in code today, you need an approved partner account, a scraper, or a hosted sold-listings API.

If you're building anything that needs to know what an item is worth, a card app, a repricer or an estate-sale tool, you need sold prices, not asking prices. And the first thing every developer searches is some version of "does eBay have an API for sold listings?"

Here's the honest state of things as of October 2026.

Only one row gets three checkmarks, and it isn't from eBay.

The three eBay APIs people point you to

1. Finding API (findCompletedItems): gone

For about two decades this was the answer. findCompletedItems with a SoldItemsOnly filter returned completed listings and their final prices. eBay restricted the call in October 2020, deprecated the whole Finding API (and the Shopping API) in January 2024, and decommissioned it on February 5, 2025. Any tutorial still pointing you to svcs.ebay.com/services/search/FindingService is out of date.

If you have old code calling it, see our field-by-field findCompletedItems replacement guide.

2. Browse API: open, but no sold data

eBay's suggested replacement for Finding is the Browse API. It's free and open to anyone with a developer account, but an eBay staff member put it plainly in the developer forums: the Browse API "does not return sold listings. It only returns active items that are currently available for purchase."

The closest Browse gets is estimatedSoldQuantity on getItem, which is a count for multi-quantity listings, with no prices and no dates. You can't build a price from it.

3. Marketplace Insights API: the real one, but closed

GET /buy/marketplace_insights/v1_beta/item_sales/search is eBay's only official sold-data endpoint. Per eBay's OpenAPI spec it "retrieves the sales history of the items for the last 90 days," returning up to 200 results per page.

The catch is in the label: Limited Release. You need the buy.marketplace.insights OAuth scope, which isn't granted by default. eBay staff tell applicants to file an Application Growth Check, and the forum threads are full of developers reporting invalid_scope errors, no apply button, or flat denials. One developer building an appraisal tool asked how to get access; the replies were "I did this and was denied access" and "I was also denied." Details in our Marketplace Insights access guide.

So what do people actually use?

OptionGets you sold prices in code? The catch
Marketplace InsightsYesYou almost certainly can't get approved
Terapeak / Product ResearchNo, dashboard onlyGreat for humans, no API, needs a signed-in seller account
Scraping eBay yourselfYes, while it worksSold search now requires sign-in; blocks, proxies, parser upkeep
Scraper marketplacesYesPay per result, manage runs, output varies by scraper
Hosted sold-listings APIYesMonthly fee past the free tier

Each of these is covered in more detail in the guides linked below.

Why this got harder in 2026

Two things changed this year. eBay's User Agreement, effective February 20, 2026, added "LLM-driven bots" to its list of prohibited automated access. Then, from mid-2026, multiple tool vendors reported that signed-out sold searches now redirect to a sign-in page. Scrapers that used to hit LH_Sold=1 URLs anonymously stopped working. We cover that in eBay now makes you sign in to see sold listings.

The short version

  • Need it for a human? Use Terapeak inside Seller Hub. It's free and has three years of history.
  • Need it in code and you're an approved eBay partner? Use Marketplace Insights.
  • Need it in code and you're not? Use a hosted sold-listings API. With SaleHistory it's one request:
curl "https://api.soldcomps.io/v1/sold?q=nintendo+64+console" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SALEHISTORY_KEY"

You get up to 200 sold listings with price, date, condition and shipping, plus the median. The docs take about two minutes to read.

Frequently asked questions

Does the eBay Browse API return sold items?

No. eBay staff have confirmed in the developer forums that the Browse API only returns active items currently available for purchase. Its getItem call has an estimatedSoldQuantity count, but no sold prices or dates.

Is the eBay Finding API still available?

No. eBay deprecated the Finding and Shopping APIs in January 2024 and decommissioned them on February 5, 2025. Calls to findCompletedItems no longer work.

Can I get Marketplace Insights API access?

eBay lists it as a Limited Release API. Developers are told to file an Application Growth Check, and many small developers on eBay's forums report being denied or never seeing an option to apply.

Is there a free way to get eBay sold prices?

For manual research, yes: Terapeak (Product Research) is free for eBay sellers and shows about three years of aggregates. For code, the cheapest route is a hosted API's free tier, such as SaleHistory's 100 requests a month.
